Craftmanship

Grape production

Only a healthy vineyard produces grapes of the highest quality year after year. Our goal is to work in harmony with nature and preserve soil fertility for future generations. Gentle pruning lays the foundation for healthy shoots, balanced yields, and resilient vines. Throughout the year, we support our vines with targeted measures – always with a focus on soil life, biodiversity, and water balance.

To maintain soil structure, we minimize unnecessary machinery passes and use cover crops to prevent erosion. A key component of our sustainable philosophy is producing our own compost from pomace, allowing us to return valuable nutrients to the soil and close natural cycles.

Winery

Since the construction of our new winery in 2012, we have combined modern technology with traditional craftsmanship to produce wines with true character. In our cellar, stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels bring together precise fermentation and natural maturation. Gentle handling is our highest priority.

In the historic part of the estate, wooden barrels up to 60 years old rest quietly, where our most valuable wines mature and develop their distinctive depth. Sustainability is a consistent focus of our work: on sunny days, our photovoltaic system generates all the electricity needed for operations, supporting our environmentally responsible approach.

Outdoor Operations - Diversity in the Rheingau

With 90 hectares of vineyards across the entire Rheingau region, our daily work is both diverse and demanding. The sites range from gentle hillsides to steep vineyards, each presenting its own unique challenges.

At the heart of our operations are the 18 hectares of Rüdesheim’s steep-slope vineyards, to which we devote special care. By preserving historic dry-stone walls and meticulously maintaining the vineyard parcels, we not only ensure the highest quality but also help protect the distinctive landscape that defines the region.

Vinification

We place the highest value on the gentle processing of our grapes. Depending on the vintage, they are either pressed directly or undergo a period of skin contact to fully develop their aromatic potential.

All of our must is carefully clarified through natural sedimentation, allowing suspended solids to settle naturally. We deliberately avoid unnecessary intervention in order to preserve the purity and character of our wines. Fermentation is carefully controlled, yet we give each wine the time it needs to develop harmoniously and unfold its full potential.
